Testing Batteries without opening a pedal
by analog man
By plugging a guitar cable HALFWAY into the input jack, you can measure the voltage on the battery in a pedal. This will save time unscrewing the back.
Plug the cable in gently until you can just feel it make contact with the RING lug on the input jack. This lug is connected to the black wire on the battery clip.
You may get a slightly lower value than the actual battery reading depending on the circuit, but it should be close enough to tell you if it's OK. Try reversing the leads on the meter for most effects, the sunface works as pictured because it is POSITVE GROUND unlike most pedals. Test with the red (+) lead on the ground of the guitar jack or you will get a negative reading.
